Today, we’re celebrating World Hearing Day 2023, and I want to give you 5 tips to keep your hearing healthy, despite living with diabetes.
Tip #1: Keep your blood sugar levels in check. High blood sugar levels can cause damage to your nerves and blood vessels, which can affect your hearing. So, make sure you monitor your blood sugar levels regularly and follow a healthy diet plan to keep them under control.
Tip #2: Stay physically active. Exercise not only helps you maintain a healthy weight, but it also improves blood circulation, which can help prevent hearing loss. So, make sure you get some form of physical activity daily, even if it’s just a brisk walk around the block.
Tip #3: Protect your ears from loud noises. Exposure to loud noises can cause hearing loss, and if you have diabetes, it can make it worse. So, make sure you wear earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones when you’re in a loud environment, like a concert or a construction site.
Tip #4: Quit smoking. Smoking not only damages your lungs and heart but also affects your hearing. If you have diabetes, smoking can make your condition worse, so quit smoking as soon as possible.
Tip #5: Get regular hearing check-ups. Last but not least, make sure you get your hearing checked regularly. Early detection can help prevent further damage, so make it a part of your routine health check-up.
